Across the globe, censorship is evolving. No longer limited to banning newspapers or imprisoning journalists, governments are using more sophisticated tools: platform restrictions, internet shutdowns, restrictive data laws, smear campaigns, and economic pressure. These tactics don’t just control information – they aim to systematically silence critical voices.
In this edition of Exile Talks, we zoom in on three countries to understand what this actually means in everyday life. What information do people in Hong Kong, Iran, and Turkey have access to? Which stories disappear—and what does it take to find them anyway?
To understand this, we invite you to a conversation with journalists, activists, and developers from Hong Kong, Iran, and Turkey, who continue their fight against censorship from exile in Europe. How do they resist? Expect stories about encrypted communications, mirror sites, satellite projects, diaspora media, solidarity networks and more.

Together, we will explore:
* how digital tools like AI moderation, surveillance, and platform blocking are used to control information
* how “legal” instruments – like terror laws or disinformation rules – are used to target journalists and critics
* what it actually means to work in exile: staying safe, staying connected, and dealing with pressure and self-censorship

We’ll dive into the political, technical, and emotional sides of it all—and there will be plenty of space for your questions and perspectives.
More info on speakers will follow soon.
