This edition of Exile Talks focuses on reporting from and on Ethiopia —a country where journalists face immense pressure, while conflicts and political developments remain underreported in German and international media.

Against the backdrop of ongoing political tensions and armed conflicts, we will explore the role of disinformation, the importance of fact-checking, and the impact of transnational repression on journalists and media workers. Topics include press freedom and media censorship, reporting on the conflict in the Tigray region and other ongoing crises, the authoritarian developments in Ethiopia under Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. The conversation will also address how exile shapes journalistic work and what perspectives exiled reporters can offer that are often missing from Western coverage.
